Getting Organised By Design set up

Follow the steps for your device below. It only takes a few minutes, and you only have to do it once.

Open Organised By Designorganised.itsmebydesign.com
Your access code ORGANISED-BY-DESIGN

You'll enter this once. If it doesn't work, check your welcome email or the members portal for the current code.

Step one · everyone

Open the link, enter your code

Do this first, on whichever device you plan to use as your main one.

  1. Tap the button above (or go to organised.itsmebydesign.com).
  2. Type in your access code: ORGANISED-BY-DESIGN.
  3. You'll see three short intro screens — read them, then tap Next through each.
  4. Choose a 4-digit PIN. You'll be asked to enter it twice, to make sure it's right. This is what keeps your record private.

Nothing you write ever leaves your device. There's no account, no server, no one else who can see it — including us.

Step two · pick your device

Set it up properly, once

We recommend your computer as your main copy, and adding it to your phone too if it helps you record things in the moment.

On your computer — use Chrome or Edge

  1. Open the app link in Chrome or Edge (not Safari) and finish Step One above.
  2. After you set your PIN, a screen appears saying "Add Organised By Design to your computer." Click Add it to my computer.
  3. Look for the app's icon and drag it onto your taskbar / dock, so it's always one click away.
  4. From now on, always open it from that icon — not by searching or typing the address again.
  5. In Settings, tap "Save your entries to a folder on this computer" and choose somewhere sensible (e.g. your Documents, or an iCloud Drive / Dropbox folder). This is where your readable files and backups will live.

On a Mac using Safari instead? There's no install button — click File → Add to Dock in the menu bar at the top of the screen instead.

On your phone

iPhone or iPad? It must be Safari. Not Chrome, not Edge — only Safari can add this app to your Home Screen. Look for the compass icon, that's Safari.

Samsung or Android? Chrome (or whatever browser is already on your phone) is fine.

  1. Open the app link on your phone, in Safari (iPhone) or Chrome (Android), and finish Step One above.
  2. iPhone: tap the Share button in Safari's toolbar (the square with an arrow pointing up) → scroll down → tap Add to Home Screen → tap Add. Android: tap the install icon or menu (⋮) in Chrome → Add to Home screen / Install app.
  3. Open Organised By Design from that new icon on your Home Screen from now on.
  4. You'll be asked to set your PIN again there — that's normal, it's a separate, safer copy.

Step three · the one that matters most

Back up regularly

Your record is stored only on the device you're using — so a backup is the only way to protect it.

  1. If you connected a folder on your computer (Step Two), the app will remind you to "Back up now" after every entry — it takes one tap, and saves straight into that folder.
  2. On your phone, you'll be prompted the same way — tap Back up now, choose a passphrase, and save the file somewhere like Files, iCloud Drive or Google Drive.
  3. Write your passphrase down somewhere safe, separately. It can never be recovered or reset — without it, a backup can't be opened.
  4. To bring a backup back in on a new device: Settings → Restore from a backup.

Mobile is currently our BETA version. Please treat your computer as your main record, and back up your phone often — phones and their browsers can occasionally clear what's stored on them.

Once you're in

A few quick things to know

You don't need to fill everything in

Start with whatever matters right now. Your record can build naturally as things happen — there's no need to sit down and document everything at once.

Keep it factual

Dates, times, what happened, what was said, what was paid. Clear and specific holds up best if you ever need to refer back to it.
